Commercial security cameras in Lincoln and Omaha get bought twice when the first project only answered “how many domes.” The second project is the one that asks what question each camera is supposed to answer, how long the clip has to exist, and whether the door in that view still opens with a key everyone shares.
Answer first: the camera program is business security cameras. If the picture needs a name attached — who badged in — add access control in the same design. The wider system page, when alarms and video are one conversation, is video surveillance. City constraints live on physical security in Lincoln and physical security in Omaha.
SAINT installs Verkada and UniFi Protect. We do not rank camera brands for sport, and we do not name other local companies in order to look louder.
What a commercial camera is for
A useful camera answers a question you will actually ask:
- Who was at the receiving door at 6:10 a.m.?
- Which vehicle sat in the lot, if the lane truly needs a plate read?
- What did the register view show during the shift you already suspect?
A camera that watches a hallway nobody disputes is a maintenance bill. License-plate cameras belong on a gate or a lane that needs plates. They are not the default dome. Clinic and counseling interiors need a harder rule: waiting rooms and exteriors can be in bounds; session rooms are ordinarily out of bounds. We will decline a layout that ignores that.
Retention is a purchase, not a slogan. Verkada stores video on the camera, with a retention window that depends on the model. UniFi Protect stores video on a recorder we size. If you need a vendor cloud archive and you do not want a recorder, that is a Verkada conversation, not a sentence we paste onto UniFi. Details of the UniFi recorder path are on UniFi Protect.
Lincoln camera projects
Lincoln commercial cameras are usually a single floorplate. Haymarket retail, a professional suite downtown, a south-Lincoln shop, an independent clinic. The Hickman drive is short enough that aiming and a return visit are practical. The design limits are not looser because the drive is short.
Use the Lincoln physical security page linked above when you are briefing a building in town. Use the camera page when you are choosing the system.
Omaha camera projects
Omaha commercial cameras often have to agree across two sites. A clip from a West Omaha office and a clip from a Bellevue warehouse should not require two forgotten passwords. That is an argument for one platform and one admin list, not for doubling the camera count.
The Omaha physical security page linked above is where metro logistics are spelled out: scheduled I-80 on-site, no Omaha showroom, suburbs as service area.
Cameras without doors are half a system
| You can see… | You still cannot say… |
|---|---|
| A person at the door | Whether their credential was valid |
| A door that opened | Who was allowed to open it |
| A lot at night | That the gate schedule matches the business |
When those second columns matter, access control belongs in the same project as the business cameras. Verkada puts door events and video in one console. UniFi Access puts the door hub on the same controller as Protect. Splitting vendors because two salespeople called the same week is how Friday terminations get missed.
The video surveillance page linked above stays the right page if the building already has a video platform and the question is whether to extend it rather than replace it. We will not insist on a rip-out.
What we will not promise
- A theft-free shop, clinic, or yard. Cameras support a response. They are not a lock.
- A public per-camera price. Count, model, retention, lifts, and switch ports change the number.
- A certification badge we do not hold. Authorized Verkada partner is accurate. An invented elite tier is not. UniFi is a platform we deploy, not a medal we print.
- A leaderboard of Lincoln or Omaha camera companies. Ask each one who aims the view, who owns the admin list, and who answers when a camera goes offline in February.
If you want that conversation about a specific suite, lot, or warehouse, book a Security & IT Assessment or call 531-625-2111. We will tell you how many views earn their keep, and which ones we would leave off the order.
